Parents Spanking Children As Punishment

Sydney , results of surveys conducted in Australia showed that 69 percent of parents still use the hit to discipline their children . Yet according to the doctor , this practice should be stopped , because it could make the child's behavior problems .

The debate over whether corporal punishment is a safe and effective form of disciplining children are now coming to fruition . The pediatricians of the division of pediatric Royal Australasian College of Physicians ( RACP ) calls that corporal punishment should be made as an illegal act .

In addition to using only his bare hands , not infrequently also the parents use a tool such as a belt to hit her . According RACP , corporal punishment means the use of physical force to control children's behavior .

They argue that corporal punishment , including spanking, is very ancient . This means children as human rights have been violated , and they became the only group that is not protected from physical violence in the current legislation . This means that parents must use other methods of discipline are more effective but did not involve violence , as reported by ABC , Thursday ( 05/09/2013 ) .

Prof Susan Moloney , President of Paediatrics and Child Health Division RACP and professor at Griffith University , said the corporal punishment that goes into child abuse will make them have behavioral problems and mental health in the long run .

" There is no safe limit how many times or how hard blow don'ts . What is called a one on one parent may be different from the definition of the other parent . Essence of children should not be subject to corporal punishment , " said Prof. Susan .

Studies show physical punishment have different consequences in terms of health and social development. Corporal punishment is not an effective form of discipline . Some specific findings include:

1 . Experience of physical punishment in childhood is associated with depression , anxiety disorders , substance abuse , and personality disorders later in life .

2 . Experience of physical punishment on children is associated with a higher incidence of health conditions in adulthood , including heart disease , obesity and arthritis .

3 . Children are often beaten at age 3 were more likely to be aggressive by age 5 .

4 . Corporal punishment teaches children prefer to avoid bad behavior in front of their parents rather than fully stop the bad behavior .

5 . There is no evidence that increasing physical punishment and child health development and health .

Child and educational psychologist , Andrew Greenfield , said hitting just tell the kids that hitting another person will not be a problem . At that moment , the children learn that physical violence is the way to solve the problem .

" It may have short- term benefits for the elderly , but do not teach their children anything , " said Andrew .
